The HAWKING is outfitted for every type of research and science need. The upper section above operational decks is a massive arboretum designed to transport large quantities of flora and fauna. The arboretum is also topped with a hefty high-tech deep-space telescope capable of viewing enormous distances.
Below the operational decks, the saucer carries 3 independant "Landable Labs". These are each outfitted for conducting various research such as medical, radilogical, biological, mechanical, and ætheral projects. These 3 labs operate independently of each other. Typically they remain attached to the HAWKING and conduct their research in space or orbit. However, as the name implies, they can each detach and decend to make planetfall to put the lab on the planet where circumstances require longer term stays and planet hand-on access by personnel.
