Lt. Commander Barton, Gabriel Ambrose III
Rank: Lt. Commander
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Date of Birth: April 14th in the year of Our Lord 19 hundred and 72
Home: Kingsford, New South Wales, Australia
Marital Status: Single
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 139 lbs
Physical Description: Standing at no more than five and a half feet tall, Gabriel makes up through poise and confidence what he lacks in stature. His blue-grey eyes not only convey an individual with remarkable self-assurance but also one with a sense of youthful rebelliousness. It compliments a rather roguish and playful grin but the curled moustache on his upper lip and a small pointed beard on the lower often obscure it. The pair is groomed immaculately just as his short locks of golden hair, which is parted a little left of centre. Though a gentleman's suit or uniform can hide imperfections, Gabriel looks to have a rather well defined and athletic physique and by appearance alone seems to be nimble on his feet. Overall, he is a confident picture of a finely educated, if not moderately attractive, gentleman.
Psychological profile: The exuberance of youth still pulses through Gabriel's veins, as he sees that he still has a long future ahead of him with many ambitions to fulfil. His self-assurance often makes him a little overconfident, if not rash in his decisions. However, he is still able to take direction without much opposition if he respects the prudence of the authority. Gabriel is also a rather social creature that can easily circulate between the various ranks and classes, but he invariably still carries an unintentional patronising air of the nobility. It may rub some people the wrong way but he prides himself in his upper class upbringing and few could persuade him otherwise. He is also quite a charmer with the ladies and always enjoys entertaining and/or flirting with them when he has an opportunity. But for now, his career is paramount and is willing wait when it is suitable and appropriate to find a suitable wife and start a family.
Gabriel can also be best described as a glory hound. Like many others, he has ambitions to one day command his own Æthership and then become an Admiral. He will take any chance at gaining recognition by showcasing his talents. To this end he can be a very dedicated officer and has is known to boast about his prowess at the battery controls. His commitment to his position has also spurned a deep rivalry with the Marines. As the two combat arms aboard the vessel, he sees the marines as his direct competition and aims to have his crew always outshine them. His intense focus on ambition and success can be derived from his fear of failure. He comes from a long line of prominent and successful politicians, officers and other social luminaries and does not want to disappoint any of his relatives and be forgotten in the pages of the Barton family history. It is a fear that is as extreme as his fear for all small things slimy or furry.
Service Record: Gabriel entered the Æther Fleet Academy in 1990 where began his studies towards an Armament Engineering degree. Studying subjects that included ballistic theory and blasine/solectric beam analysis, he wrote a thesis on phlostigen amplifier dynamics in his final year and received first class honours. He then graduated in the top five of his class, which he likes to make known to all he meets. His first assignment as an Ensign Gunner aboard the HMS Indomitable, a heavy cruiser class under the command of Sir Captain Thomas Smart. It was a prestigious posting but the ship was mainly assigned to diplomatic and ceremonial duties. However, he was eager to get some battle experience and a year and a half later, with a couple of commendations under his belt, Gabriel gained a re-assignment to the destroyer, HMS Valiant under Captain James Druitt. He served here with distinction as officer in charge of the Phlostigen torpedoes and eventually found promotion to Lieutenant. He then transferred to the HMS Excalibur, under Sir Captain Robert Tagrith, where he further refined his Gunnery skills at the battery controls. He served until his promotion to Lt Commander, where he then applied for the vacant position as Armoury officer aboard the HMS Dauntless with high recommendations from his much-respected Captain. He was successful and now finds himself as the Gunnery Section Chief.
Background: Gabriel is the eldest and only son of the 2nd Earl, Viscount Schofield, Baron Riverstone of Minchinbury, a respected and esteemed politician in the Australian Federal Government. His grandfather was granted the title, Earl of Minchinbury, after his successes as an Admiral during the Klinkon and Romlian campaigns. He is quite close to his mother, also of noble birth as the daughter of Viscount Randwick, and often corresponds with her. His relationship with his father (commonly referred to as Ambrose to distinguish himself with his father and now his son) is a more formal affair, had always been the disciplinarian and a man to be respected. Gabriel can be referred to as Lord Schofield as a courtesy-title to his father's lesser viscountcy.
