Physical description: Wavy black hair, dark brown eyes, trimmed goatee
with mustache that he occasionally strokes while thinking, Reginald initially
comes across as imposing and distant, made more so by the dueling scar across
his right cheek that is a memento from his days at the University of
Heidelberg. While he maintains a strict military bearing, he is known for his
sense of humor, wit and compassion when dealing with lower ranking officers and
sailors. He knows the first names of all the Crewmen serving with him and
prides himself on being strict but fair. He is also more tolerant than the
typical officer and has been especially skilled at relating to disaffected
crewmembers. He also maintains a strict physical regime and is fastidious about
his diet, often preferring to make his own food.
Psychological profile: While charming and polite, Reggie is extremely
reluctant to discuss his personal life or background. The fact that he is not
married nor engaged has triggered some unwarranted speculation in some
quarters. Reggie's reputation as a fair and fearless leader has won him
considerable respect and loyalty from those who serve with him. He is very
loyal to his Ship and crew and shows naught but respect for his superiors.
Commander Ayers will not tolerate any disparaging remarks regarding any
Ætherfleet officer in his presence. He tends to downplay the fact that he
is Catholic because of lingering Anti Catholic prejudice.
Service record: Graduated University of Saint Louis in 1981. Obtained a
masters in astrophysics at the University of Heidelberg in 1983. Accepted a
commission in Her Majesty's Ætherfleet that same year. Awarded the Military
Cross for gallantry above and beyond the call of duty in 1993 for rescuing four
fellow officers and six crewmen aboard the HMS Ark Royal III after a Klinkon
boarding party. Refused a Medical Discharge and spent over a year in physical
rehabilitation before being able to return to active duty. As Gunnery Officer
aboard his next vessel, the HMS Starhunter, he was again recommended for
another citation for action against the Ferenchi that left him wounded a second
time. Ayers insisted that his fellow officer deserved the credit and
recommended him instead of promoting himself. Assigned to the HMAS Warden, he
obtained a Distinguished Service Cross for successfully negotiating the
withdrawal of a Romulian battlegroup that had crossed into Imperial space
looking for bandits. In that episode, he personally conducted talks with the
opposing commander, at great personal risk, giving the Warden enough time to
successfully hunt down the pirates. Less than three months after that episode
he asked to be reassigned off of the Warden -- no explanation was given and The
captain immediately granted his request. A much decorated officer, he has
advanced to the rank of Commander at near-record pace. While he seems
competitive and ambitious, he has made it clear on several occasions that he
currently has no desire to command a starship himself.
