Between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter lay the asteroid belt. Most of the debris may have formed naturally but archeological findings and the ancient Vulkan records have uncovered that the belt once included a trio of Earth like planets. The three planets were Vulkan, Hylarion and Syraph. These were the homes of the forerunner races that apparently traveled the stars. If certain ancient texts can be believed the three planets orbited the sun equidistantly and were bridged by an immense helical ring called Prometheus. The legend of the Promethean Ring still attracts treasure seekers into the belt hoping to find bits and pieces of the forerunner technology.

Most of the asteroid belt consists of unexceptional rock and ice fragments. Prospectors wander through the belt hoping to find valuable minerals or crystals. These "Belters" know the belt better than most but are too independent or crazed to divulge any useful information. The belt is also a haven for pirates and other creatures fleeing the Ukp justice. The hazards of navigation and ætheric disruption of communication makes the asteroid belts the perfect place to hide.
